SECOND MISSION: TRAVELLING TO AUSTRALIA

WELCOME TO AUSTRALIA MATES!

The close relationship between language and culture must be taken into account when considering foreign language teaching. It imposible to learn a language without making reference to its cultural context. One of the contents of our current educational system is that students value the foreign language as a means of communication and mutual understanding. It also emphasizes in the socio-cultural aspects of the English speaking countries and the importance of intercultural awareness, as well as, the respect and interest towards social and cultural realities different from students ones.

From a teaching point of view we must be aware of the fact that the students will not learn the foreign culture, but interact with it, elaborating their ideas about it, that will imply further changes in the concept of their own culture.

CLIL LESSON

For this reason, in the following CLIL lesson I have focused on some of the most important countries where English is spoken, describing their main geographical, historical and cultural aspects.

Teacher can introduce the Australian topic when students are learning the different continents, also they can introduce other english-speaking countries as USA, UK, Canada, New Zeeland or Ireland.

The next photos will help students to create a cultural setting where English is spoken, interact with the country, give them a global view and interesting information in order to develop their cultural competence.
